About the South African Gold Krugerrand (1 oz)

The South African Krugerrand, first minted in 1967 by the South African Mint, was the world's first modern gold bullion coin and helped establish the concept of gold coin investment. For much of the 1970s and 1980s, the Krugerrand accounted for over 90% of global gold coin sales.

Like the American Gold Eagle, it's made from 22-karat gold alloyed with copper for added durability, giving it a distinctive warm reddish-gold tone. The obverse features President Paul Kruger; the reverse shows a springbok antelope.

Key specifications:

Krugerrands typically trade at some of the lowest premiums of any major sovereign gold coin, making them popular among cost-conscious stackers and investors.
