The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf has been produced by the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) since 1979, making it one of the oldest modern gold bullion coins. It was the first coin to achieve .999 purity, and by 1982 the RCM upgraded it to .9999 fineness. Today it remains one of the purest sovereign gold coins available anywhere.
The obverse features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II (updated periodically), while the reverse showcases Canada's iconic maple leaf — immediately recognizable to bullion dealers worldwide. Since 2013, the coin has included a micro-engraved radial-line security feature for anti-counterfeiting.
