About the American Gold Eagle (1 oz)

The American Gold Eagle is the United States' official gold bullion coin, first struck in 1986 by the US Mint under the Gold Bullion Coin Act of 1985. Each 1 oz coin contains exactly one troy ounce of gold, though its total weight is 1.0909 troy ounces due to a copper-silver alloy that adds durability.

The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens' celebrated Lady Liberty design, originally used on the $20 Double Eagle gold coin from 1907–1933. The reverse displays a family of bald eagles by sculptor Miley Busiek.

Key specifications:

Gold Eagles are among the most liquid gold coins in the world and are accepted by virtually every precious metals dealer and refinery. Their legal tender status and US government guarantee of weight and purity make them the most trusted US gold coin for both investors and collectors.
